research:

Global and transnational in scope, my research lies at the intersection of political sociology and international development, with a focus on global norms and cross-national attitudes. Specifically, I examine cross-national trends in democracy, climate change and the environment, and women’s rights to address new and pressing questions about how to best foster development. I am pursuing multiple projects engaging three overlapping lines of research examining how:

1) democracy-promoting international non-governmental organizations (DINGOs) frame and deliver aid, and how this impacts international development and democratization in target countries;

2) exposure to liberal global forces augment or reduce individuals' environmental and climate change skepticism, and;

3) development activities promoting women’s rights influence gender equality and ideology.

Using a combination of advanced quantitative methods such as longitudinal analysis and multilevel modeling, computational text analysis, and large-scale experimental surveys to conduct comparative, cross-national analyses, I expand existing literature on development in novel and innovative ways while answering fundamental and timely questions about how to best achieve stability, safety, and well-being through development.
